The First Spark in My Life as a New Torchbearer

Greetings, kind reader
I extend my deepest gratitude for joining me on this inaugural blog post as a devoted torchbearer of Hekate. Having recently completed my training—just before participating in the Ritual of Her Sacred Fires—I was already contemplating ways to honor the venerable name of the Goddess.
As I surveyed my collection of dried herbs, a small jar of lavender captured my attention. I have always cherished its scent and flavor, and as I considered its use, an idea illuminated my mind: I would host a Mother's Day bake sale featuring homemade vanilla-lavender cupcakes.
This decision was no small endeavor. I had never baked a cake or even used a boxed mix. Still, I resolved to engage my newly embraced role with earnestness. With Mother’s Day swiftly approaching, I envisioned this offering serving two purposes: first, to celebrate mothers with a thoughtful and delightful treat; second, to donate all proceeds to causes aligned with my devotion; namely, organizations supporting survivors of domestic violence, low-cost animal clinics, and educators within the magical community.

I immersed myself in tutorials and reached out to family and friends, seeking guidance on cupcake and frosting recipes. My aunt, a cherished matriarchal figure in my life, shared a simple yet exquisite lavender frosting recipe; fresh, fragrant, and calming.
I assembled my tools, measured my ingredients with care, and invoked Hekate for strength and resilience. As a novice baker, I required the courage to face possible failure and the determination to persevere. With lively French café music playing in the background, I spun in joyful pirouettes and attempted a few awkward assemblés. My spirit lifted as I embraced the playful chaos of creation, confident that my inner "kitchen witch" might summon just enough magic to succeed.
I baked my first batch of cupcakes, and my family kindly volunteered as taste testers. My husband, with a bemused expression, commented, “These cupcakes are very good—just go easy on the lavender.” My youngest daughter devoured hers silently, nodding approvingly before retreating to her room. My eldest remarked, “They taste great, just not so many sprinkles next time.” While the feedback was mixed, none of it was discouraging, which fueled my hope and confidence. After restoring order to my flour-dusted kitchen, I fell asleep that night content, knowing my next attempt would be even better.
The following morning, I sent a message to friends, neighbors, coworkers, and fellow parents announcing my bake sale and its purpose. The response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Between May 5th and 9th, my kitchen became a sanctuary scented with vanilla bean, French lavender, and espresso. I baked tirelessly, danced joyfully, and refined my frosting technique with every batch.
I enlisted my teenage daughter and her friends to assist with decorating, packaging, and deliveries. It proved a beautiful opportunity to share lessons about service, volunteerism, environmental care, and the joy of giving. They were engaged, inspired, and especially delighted by the cause.
At the close of our project, I gifted each helper with a small box of cupcakes and a Mother's Day balloon to present to their mothers. They promised to support future efforts, including environmental cleanups and fundraising initiatives.
I am delighted to report the bake sale surpassed expectations. I sold more than anticipated, and the blessings of Hekate were evident throughout. I gifted the remaining cupcakes to neighboring mothers, spreading sweetness and gratitude.
Guided by Hekate, I divided the proceeds into three equal donations: one to a women’s shelter, another to a local low-cost veterinary clinic, and the final share to a beloved teacher in the magical community—a fellow devotee of the Goddess.
This endeavor marked a meaningful and auspicious beginning to my journey as a torchbearer. I am profoundly grateful to walk this path in Her name and in Her service.
