Oracle of the Hekatean Path by Kenn Payne, with artwork by Christopher Butler, is a beautifully conceived oracle deck devoted entirely to the Goddess Hekate. It is not simply a general oracle deck with a Hekatean flavour added on top. It is clearly built around her symbols, titles, mysteries, and paths, which gives it a strong devotional centre.

Kenn Payne is well known within the Covenant of Hekate as one of our early members and one of our memorable Torchbearers who contributed a great deal to the development of our community. This is important ot mention, as this deck has not been created from a distance. It comes from someone who has spent years within the Hekatean community, in ritual and study, which gives the cards a sense of lived understanding only possible from someone who has seen this community evolve.

Kenn has a long history of service within the Covenant of Hekate. In the early days, he edited the Covenant’s zine Askei Kataskei, helping to give voice to the growing Hekatean community and its shared work. He is now a retired member of the Torchbearer Circle - a Companion Member, a recognition for his positive contribution over the years.

The deck contains sixty cards, illustrated by Christopher Butler, and the artwork is one of its immediate strengths. The images are dark, rich and atmospheric without feeling empty or over-styled. They draw on Hekate’s world of torches, keys, crossroads, serpents, dogs, moonlight, shadow, mystery and transformation. The result is a deck that feels visually coherent and recognisably Hekatean.

This deck is especially useful for people who are learning about Hekate or actively working with her, because it gives her symbols, epithets and associations a practical form that can be handled, contemplated and returned to. Reviews often note that the guidebook is concise rather than exhaustive, but that this can be a strength: the cards leave space for intuition, meditation and personal relationships. The deck can be used for divination, altar work, journalling, dark moon reflection, study of Hekate’s many names, or as a prompt for deeper research into her myths and symbols. For beginners, it offers an accessible doorway into Hekate’s world; for established devotees, it provides a focused tool for regular practice, reflection and communication at the crossroads.
