Francine D - Voices of the Covenant / Brazilian Keybearer
In this instalment of our Keybearer & Torchbearer interview series "Voices of the Covenant", we meet a long-standing Brazilian member of the Covenant of Hekate who first joined in 2015, inspired by the opportunity to learn, share and connect with others devoted to the Goddess. She is our first Brazilian Torchbearer and subsequently also Keybearer, and with a small, but dedicated team, manage one of the largest sanctuaries in the CoH. With Sorita d'Este she helped organise the first Hekate Symposium (Simposia Hecate) in Sao Paolo in 2025 too. Francine serves as both a Keybearer and Torchbearer and her work is deeply rooted in community service, historical study and devotion to Hekate as Soteira and the Cosmic World Soul.
She is also actively involved in sharing knowledge with Portuguese-speaking devotees, including through free classes and the Circle of Dadophoros, a nine-month online course exploring Hekate's history. In this interview, they reflect on their evolving understanding of Hekate, the importance of community, and how devotion can shape everyday life, study, and service.
1. When did you first join the Covenant of Hekate, and what inspired you to
become part of it?
I joined the Covenant in 2015, attracted to the idea of a community
to share historical and practical information about the Goddess and her cult.
2. What first drew you to Hekate, and how has that initial connection developed
over time?
Hekate presented herself to me in meditation, and I knew after that she would
be my main devotional deity, but I didn't knew her at all, so it was a journey to her
mysteries.
3. What led you to become a Torchbearer or Keybearer within the Covenant?
I was so grateful for all that I received in the Covenant that being at the service of the
community was my way to repay it, and it's a huge part of my personal devotion to
her.
4. How do you understand your role as a Torchbearer or Keybearer today? As a Keybearer, I have a more administrative role regarding the decisions and the future of the Covenant, and as a Torchbearer I tried to continuously bring her devotees near
her cult and, specifically, the other members of the Covenant within the community.
5. Has your understanding of Hekate changed since joining the Covenant? If so,
what has shifted? Yes, definitely. When I joined I was just beginning to understand Hekate and her role as the Axis Mundi, now this is her main aspect in my practice with her.
6. Which name, title, symbol or image of Hekate is most meaningful to you, and
why?
Soteira, and the Cosmic World Soul, the principle and generator of all things.
7. How does your devotion to Hekate shape your personal work, practice or
service?
I'm very public about my relationship with her so it became my top priority so ib the
way I plan my traveling and vacations, to my reading list and how I answer devotees
who came to me everyday, it's all connected with her.
8. What role does community play in your Hekatean path?
It's my main source of information and also the safe space that led me to know
different devotees around the world, some of the best friends I could have.
9. How do you balance personal experience, devotion and historical sources in
your work with Hekate?
I tried to use the historical sources as the basis to validate the personal gnosis and
as a source to come near hear. I also offer free classes in portuguese about it to all
interested, and I'm constantly trying to learn more.
10. What do you feel is most often misunderstood about Hekate in modern Pagan
or magical communities?
That she's not the evil old goddess who's jealous or evil.
11. Is there a Hekatean practice, prayer, ritual or observance that has become
especially important to you?

The Rite of Her Sacred Fires as it was the day when we do a public rite open to the
community in São Paulo, and it's such a special moment.
12. Is there any Hekate-related work, project, group, writing, art, ritual or service

12. What advice would you offer to someone who is just beginning their path with
Hekate?
With a honest heart and the truthful desire to learn and serve her Hekate will always
show you her paths.
